Sound and Mise en scene
Sound
diegetic and non-diegetic
diegetic refers to the world of text
eg: dialogue ,sound effects ,music with a source within a text and radio
Non-diegetic refers to everything outside the world of the text
examples: voiceover ,soundtrack ,caption ,titles and subtitles gun shot
Sound: on/off-screen
on-screen sound-the audience can see the source of the sound
off-screen sound-the audience can`t see the source of the sound
parallel sound matches the action
contrapuntal sound: does not match the action
starts off slow and then when the shark attacks the cuts massively
increase
Sound: Sound bridge
a sound bridge helps create a smooth transition between two scenes used in the Matrix
Mise-en-scene
a french term meaning: in the scene or frame
elements are
1)settings and props
2) facial expressions and body language
3)costume, hair and make-up
4)lighting and colour
5) positioning of characters and
objects in the frame
where objects and characters are, positions are very important
object and characters can be in the foreground middle-ground or background
this can emphasize the relative importance of the object or character
Colour
from the 1930s to the 1940s black and white represented reality and colour
represented fantasy and spectacle
today the opposite is true

Detonation-the literal description of an idea, concept or object
Connotation-what we associate with an idea, concept or object
if characters or objects are positioned evenly within the frame this will
give a balanced feel to the shot
if the characters are positioned at the outside edges of the frame this
indicates confrontation or distance
focus pulling switch from focus to blurry or blurry to focus
Lighting
the key light is what is the brightest and most influential
the back light contracts it and creates a silhouette or a shadow
under light when the source of light is coming from bellow
Again, there is a ton of information here (which is great!) but it needs to be clearer.
